God gave man responsibility to rule over animals. Animals are a gift from the Lord. God does NOT condone cruelty to animals:
The bible says "A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel." Proverbs 12:10
If the need arises to euthanise an animal due to illness or an accident, this is an act of kindness and mercy to end the misery and suffering of a beloved pet. It would be a cruel sin to knowingly allow an animal to continue on in suffering as you wouldn't be caring for the need of your animal as I believe the above scripture talks about.

I do BELIEVE it is a sin to kill - however - since I eat meat - and they ate meat in biblical days - and I don't think they had pets back then as everything served a purpose - it probably isn't.
I would never do it - but I can see where the confusion lies.
For me - bringing a pet into the family - makes it a family member. Trust me - the family dog wouldn't be my first pick if I decided to start whacking off family :)

Unless you're putting your pet out of it's misery because of illness or injury, you shouldn't kill your pet. Believe it or not, everything under the sun isn't a sin. People just have to make something out of nothing. I'm sure God understands the reasoning behind putting an animal to sleep. He also understands if you're just a hateful meanie who abuses animals. I'm sure He doesn't like it. I know I don't.

They don't think animals have souls, so probably not but ohhhh the depravity, if to kill just for the sake of the thrill of extinguishing a life... there's sin and darkness in such blackness of heart and sickness of mind. That is, if you believe in that sort of religious crap. Otherwise, it is still just plain culturally and societically wrong and SICK. Just watch out for the ASPCA. No problem with euthanizing them to end their suffering if they're dying anyway.

No your laptop is already not alive, and animals have life but are not beings with immortal souls, or the intellect to conceptualize their own existence nor their mortality. Since they have not these traits they cannot enter the after-life nor can they make a conscious decision to choose a destiny in the hereafter.

God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them: "Be fertile and multiply and fill the earth. Dread fear of you shall come upon all the animals of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon all the creatures that move about on the ground and all the fishes of the sea; into your power they are delivered. Every creature that is alive shall be yours to eat; I give them all to you as I did the green plants. (Genesis 9:1-3)
The Catholic Church teaches:
+ It is a sin to cause animals to suffer or die needlessly.
+ It is not a sin to kill animals with as little suffering as possible for food, clothing, and the health and safety of humans.
+ Medical and scientific experimentation on animals is a morally acceptable practice if it remains within reasonable limits and contributes to caring for or saving of human lives.
With love in Christ.

Sin is a flawed concept. The definitions stay the same though our system of morality improves with greater understanding of the human condition (example: sexuality is normal)

Well, I just had to have one of my pets euthanized. He was very old and suffering from several ailments. I don't think I committed a sin. I think he is no longer in pain.

We should always try to be humane to animals. I think in some cases euthanizing an animal is the most humane thing to do if you don't want them to suffer unnecessarily.
