We have been dating almost one year...neither of us has said "I love you" outright...or given each other cards, notes, etc. with those words on it...romantic cards, etc., but never the actual words...we are exclusive and a great together...get along wonderfully...he is great...I do love him and want to tell him so. However......I think it will make me too vulnerable without knowing, definitely, how he feels about me, so I am afraid to say it first...what do you think I should do...our one year anniversary is coming up in about two weeks and I thought it might be the right time to tell him...should I?

I think you should definitely tell him. If its' been that long, and it has been a good relationship, then it is likely that he feels the same way! maybe he's just where you are right now, too nervous to tell you! I was the one to tell my boyfriend first that i loved him, and i was scared and nervous, but he said he loved me back! and it was one of the greatest moments of my life! If he doesn't feel the same way, it's not the end of your relationship! Because all things come with time, and if he knows your feelings, it can only get better!

Just ask him how he feels about you? That should be a good start to opening up the lines of communication. Typically, I'd say that you should wait for him to say it FIRST. Ask him has he ever told someone that he loves them. He may have had a disappointing experience making him hold back from saying it to you. It's always nice to hear it first because it does leave you vulnerable but so is He if he says it first. Go figure.

have a discussion with him on the subject, then decide together if the definitions resemble you two.. and if it does then you can say it
