My partner and I live in the Wangjing district of Beijing. He has a day off work on Wednesday and seeing as the weather here has been getting nicer we have decided we would like to go somewhere out of the city for a day trip. We hae visited all the usual touristy areas such as the Great Wall at Badaling and The Summer Palace. We were thinking about something like a day at the beach. Can anyone recommend anything that's not too far from Beijing that would make a good day out?

The nearest places for day /overnight trips that I would recommend are the below listed ones, however I would suggest that you wait till mid April or early May to really enjoy these beaches, for it is still cold for people to there.

Beidahe and Shanhaiguan. Qinhuandao, in the northeast of Hebei Province, is a tourist port city in North China opening to the outside world. Qinhuangdao has Beidaihe to the west, a famous seaside resort with soft and smooth beaches, a calm water surface and light surf. Beidahe is dotted with several scores of sea bathing grounds. To its east, backed on to the mountains and facing the sea, Shanhaiguan Pass is strategically located, formed of a gate tower, watch tower, ramparts and walls built in the Ming Dynasty, and known as "the First Pass under Heaven." From Shanhaiguan, you can easily go to the beach to see the place where the Great Wall meets the sea, and then cycle to the other spot where it enters the mountains. This can all be done in one day.

Transport: Take train Y209 at Beijing Railway Station, which goes to Qinghuandao.

Qingdao, on the Yellow Sea, is the province's largest city . It is well-known for its beaches and tasty Tsingtao Beer and Laoshan mineral water. The city is pretty with hills, trees and red-tiled roofs. It has six beaches, usually crowded in summer.

The No.1 Bathing Beach enjoys the most-favored status in Qingdao. No. 2 Bathing Beach is smaller, quieter and more sheltered than No.1.Forty kilometers east of Qingdao is the Laoshan Mountain, home of the eight Taoist Immortals.

Transport: Trains 23 and 53 go from Beijing Railway Station to Qingdao.

Or you can try to get to some of the hiking areas North of Beijing -- you could go to Mutianyu or Simatai -- lots of great hiking. If you are looking just for a day trip, the beaches described above could be difficult to get to -- require more time. The other option is to phone your friends that live in residential areas with outdoor or indoor pools (preferebly indoor pool) this time of the year :-)

We in simple terms have been given decrease back this week from staying in Beijing for 3 nights. We stayed on the Park Plaza Wangfujing, which we booked by using expedia. i think of the three nights fee us approximately $500 AUD. the area became large and each and all of the workers spoke English. i'd advise it as a large place to stay in Beijing. different than for the attractions you have reported, i'd advise which you bypass to various the markets, such by way of fact the Silk Markets. Its very severe, yet an exceptionally interesting adventure! We did an afternoon excursion to the Wall, and went to the Mutianyu component of the wall. It became fairly steep in locations yet okay maintained. there have been no longer multiple travelers there in the time of our bypass to. It does take somewhat longer to get to than Badaling, yet truly worth it. Cabs are low-fee. It fee us approximately 80 Yuan to commute from the airport to our inn. I trust the previous answer - in ordinary terms use permitted cabs from the main important taxi rank or those ordered by utilising your inn. additionally be conscious that the same old public lavatories there are very diverse to western lavatories. Any women are in all likelihood to desire to hold on particularly than bypass in a public rest room. maximum are drop lavatories without ability to take rest room paper or sanitary products so those products are deposited in a bin beside the rest room. savour your stay and have exciting! Its very chilly there precise now, so p.c.. heat!

Anyway, definitely Qinghuangdao is a great choice, and probably the closest decent beach near to Beijing.
