As many as they can financially afford to assure proper health care, adequate space and time for them. I'd love to have several but I couldn't care for them properly so I won't consider. I just spoil the 1 I have. My hubby and our boston terrier "IDGIE"

It depends on how responsible you are. We have 3 dogs, but we are able to feed them and take care of them and keep them healthy and energetic.

If you are a work-o-holic, I suggest you don't have any pets except ones that are low maintnance. Even though you are an animal lover.

If you are a person whos only home in the morings and evenings, well, same as the 1st answer.

If you are home most of the day, or have a spouse thats home most of the day and kids that are responsible,I don't think it matters how many dogs you have.

If you have kids that are at school and you and your spouse are at work all day, buying an underground electric fence works rather well. We have one since we're all gone during the day. Although we do trust our dogs. But our dogs are trained, and since we have more than one dog, they all stay entertained by playing with eachother.

Since you have six dogs, its good to give them toys and and bones to keep them occupied.

Good Luck With Your Dog Gang!

I have 3 but would like to have a hundred if I could take care of 'em all. Three is enough for now, I live in town.

Yes, we can tell you are an animal lover.... I like you and don't even know you!

I have 2, and I'm considering adopting 2 more from the shelter.

I think the proper number of dogs for a person is the exact number that they can give pleanty of love, attention, food, and exercise to with out having financial trouble and with out getting annoyed.

Here is a website link to information regarding number of dogs per household.
http://www.animallaw.info/articles/dduslocaldog.htm

There was no consensus regarding a particular number.

Other than buying food for them, you only need to also buy a very comprehensive insurance for your house, since you will be liable in all states for damages, injuries to other people, livestock, etc when they accidentally are loose.

In that website, that seems to be the only things they agreed on. The owner pays for it all.

Six dogs is a lot but as long as they're being well cared for and loved ... who cares ...

I think towns have limits though. Where I live, in a very tiny beach town in NJ, each family is allowed no more than 3 dogs.

I have 2 GSDs at the moment and 14 cats
At one point we had 5 large dogs (GSDs, a Lab a mutt and a Collie)
As long as you can cope with them you should be fine, problems start when you can't cope and they cause trouble for neighbours

I have 2 and one is my stud for puppies so soon I will have 1 more adult and her pups occ. I believe as long as you have the proper space for this gentle giants, training of commands/actions, and time to love them...then why not...

I breed as a financial pass to also myself to also have proper fencing, walking and playing time, chew toys...ect..so I would have to say it is normal for a breeder or property owner to have 6 dogs.

I have 4. The answer is As many as they can afford that they want.If you want 10 and can afford it---you should be allowed to have them...But as with everything else our city officials and such are stepping in and putting a law in place to limit how many and where.
Slowly but surly BIG BROTHER shall have his way....
