Why do you ask me to read your religious text when you haven't read all of the other ones first? Why do you assert your text over any of the thousands of others, without reading them first?

CG- that's kind of the point though- why would they tell me that what I read and felt was wrong without looking into it first? Why no comparisons before the judgment

Hey dummy- if you read the other texts, this question doesn't pertain to you does it?

any particular religious text?

generally if someone is proselytizing at you it's because they've been convinced that they know some big Truth (note the capitalized T") of which you are unaware. they want to help you. they want you to share their experience in their big Truth. such folks don't need to read the texts of other religions because they've already got the big Truth so there's no point in looking further.

this is not a negative: I've been at the study of religions for 60 years and I have more religions left than years, so I will probably return to study in the next cycle. I truly believe that many here don't even understand their own religions much less others because they deny other religions. Don't be too rough, most were probably brought up by parents that had never known anything but their religion. This works well for religions, but stunts the spiritual life of every child exposed to such a life.

Good question.

Only about 2% of skeptics (the folks who run skeptic's dictionary for example) have actually read the materials and research of the folks who they aim to discredit.

We all like to think that the way we see things is right though...so the appeal of research and material which is contrary to what we believe is virtually nil. On the other hand, we are so enthusiastic about our own beliefs that it always seems like the greatest idea to have people read everything which supports it.

...basically it's all for quite subjctive reasons. common subjective reasons.

because I'm like an atheist.....oh no I'm not religous. just logical oh wait no there it goes again damn pride. how come you ask this question to me I've read the bible the koran thousands of budist scrolls. to many hindu words to describe and probably millions of atheistic papers. I've studied evolution, big bang and aliens. Christianity has the most going for it but to many people calling themselves christians f'ck it up for the good ones. my belief is diffrent than any I just stated but the bible is a well put together book. you should read it and tell me what you think.

not asserting texts over other ones!

people would recommend reading THEIR textx because they helped them

just say you read a book that you thought was great, and you recommended it to your friend.

does it matter that you haven't read all the other books in the world? someone could easily say
"how do you know that its such a good book if you havent read any others?? they might be better!"

see.....you can't make a judgement on what you dont know about!

If YOU have read every other religious text including ours, then the choice is yours to make. We have already made our choice. We only offer you the choice.

Yes really the bible is just another book in the long lines of fables. People screen how true it is without reading the Koran or any thing else. To be fair we are all a little bit self centered.

Nex, Atheist.

I feel that it's very important to learn about other religions so that I might be able to share my beliefs better. Think about this though, Buda, Mohammad, ect. all proclaimed that they were most high/messiah during there life. Christianity is the only religion where there was a prophesy proclaiming Christ's birth.

What makes you think I haven't read them?

Because the KNOW they are right, even if they've never even bothered to hear anything different.

Their certainty scares the living S**T out of me!
