Insurance companies seem to be out of control;charging higher rates, but don't want to pay claims.

If the claim is covered by policy language, the company is obligated to pay, less your deductible in a certain amount of time per your state's regulations. If you do not provide a proof of loss or do not communicate or provide requested information, the claim will stop dead in its tracks. If it is excluded in the policy language, of course they are not going to pay. What is the situation you are referring to???

The insurance commissioner approves or disapproves rate increases or decreases the insurance companies ask for, they approve or disapprove the POLICY being written in the state.

They also oversee the "handling" of claims, i.e. was the investigation timely & reasonable, did they follow the fair claims practices act of your state. They DO NOT determine liability for an accident or whether a claim should have been paid or denied.

Read your policy....if you have a claim that was denied it's mostly due to a violation of the policy or it's an excluded peril or incident in the policy.
