Don't children have enough to contend with without having to make sense out of the moral blabberings of a 2000 year old fairytale figure. Just teach the kid to be a good human being and leave religion out of it.

Tell them about a Kingdom, in future-land (not neverland).
Tell them about the King of the Kingdom, who love them so much that the King had prepared spaces for them to live in the future.
The King told you, that the Kingdom of God is for those who can act like children (but not childish)
Be blessed!

Use the K.I.S.S. principle...Keep It Short/Simple. Tell the child that he or she was created by God through her parents. Tell her that God created the whole world. Tell her/him that a long time ago, God sent his son into the world to tell people that he had come to save them from the wrong things they were doing. His name was Jesus. Tell him that when Jesus died (you don't need to go in to the details of the cross etc) that he now talks to his father about all of us here on earth that believe in Him. Tell her/him that Jesus loves them more than anything else.

It doesn't take a lot of detail. If a child can see something in you and the way you live your life, that shows that you believe in God and Jesus, it is easy ! Children ask questions.

Leave it up to the teachers at church who hopefully have been trained. But first make sure that they are not pedophiles. They are not just in the RC church you know. There are many in the Protestants churches too.

By living what Christ teaches.
Kids always ask "Why'd you do that dad?"......the best answer is if you can honestly say "because, that's what the Good Lord wants us to do"

gee ... is it an 8 year old boy? boys that age (and sometimes girls too) like creepy things so tell him all the cool Bible stories where there's lots of violence and gore. he'll especially like the raising from the dead zombie type stuff in the New Testament.
toss in a little more descriptive narrative of Lazarus stumbling out of the grave pale greenish white and oozing maggots and the kid will be hooked.

Keep it simple. Explain why you believe. Read some of the Bible to them. They have Bibles written for children. Kids learn from watching you. If you have it, it shows. If you don't no amount of talk will convince them.

Give them a hug and tell them Jesus loves them. A kid should know at least this.
