Hangman... when you get a letter wrong they add arms and legs. And an amputee is someone missing one or the other. Demitri Martin is hilarious though.

It probably has to do with hangman. Where you have to guess the letters of the word before the little guy gets hung. If you guess the wrong letter, he loses an arm, another wrong letter, a leg, etc...

it's from the game: hangman, where you guess letters and if you don't guess the right letter then the drawer draws a leg/arm/body/whatever for every wrong guess. and it's not a good joke anyways, it's sick and just wrong
