I had my hair permantley straightened on Friday 16th. 48 hours later it started to snap off. I need to mention that I had a baby 3month ago. Prior to going to the hairdressers my hair was in fantastic condition. Just over one week later I have stubble on the top of my hair where a large portion of my hair has snapped off from the hair line to the crown. My hairdresser tells me that she has never come across this before and is blaming my hormones for the weakness in my hair and that the relaxer has just hastened the process that would have happened anyway. I do know that you loose hair following pregnancy but this normally happens from root I did not have any test prior to the process.my q are-Should I have been advised to have a relaxer after a pregnancy. What is the correct process for relaxing. Can you explain the neutralising part. Can you advise me what to do to try and stop the hair snapping further.I brush my hair and the sink is full of snapped hair not hair falling out by the root

your hair is you bodys time clock if your not well or had a stressfull time months ago, illness various stuff can cause your hair to fall out i know if your getting your hair coloured they do a skin test perming is different the hair could have been pulled to tight during the straightning process or the wrong strenghth of perm lotion for your hair
they should have done a
ELASTICITY TEST-take a stand of hair between your fingers if it breaks easy the cortex is damaged perming can be harmful to the hair
POROSITY TEST- if your hair feels rough its porus and your hair might process quicker
INCOMPATIBILITY- place a strand of hair into a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and ammonium hydroxide if the hair should bubble up the hair should not be permed cploured or any chemical treatment done
just a few tests to be done
GET CONDITIONING TREATMENTS FOR YOUR HAIR IF YOUR HAIRS REALLY LONG GETTING IT TRIMMED

Your hair is most definitely damaged after pregnancy because all your nutrition is going to the baby. Since hair is really dead and is a product of your health it's going to be greatly affected. I have heard of similar things happening after a birth. There isn't a lot you can do because the damage is already done. Maybe get a cute short haircut so you have more control over your hair and it won't tangle as much and need to be brushed. In fact try not brushing it but use a very good conditioner and don't comb or brush while it's wet. Use your fingers while it's wet then gently comb it out. When your hair is wet it is more fragile because wet hair stretches. If it's very damaged it loses the stretch that healthy hair should have. It should grown back fine once your nutrition is back to normal. A good multivitamin is a good idea too.

You need to go back to the hairdresser and demand that she treats your hair until it is in a satifactory condition as it will cost you a fortune to pay for it your self and also it needs to be treated professionaly however dont let her near it.
This hairdresser should NEVER have touched your hair with any chemicals so soon after you have had a baby.
I was never alllowed to colour hair whilst anyone was pregnant or use any chemicals on it and we always had to test strand hair after pregnancy. Three months is a good duration however if she did not test strand it to see if it was in good condition then she is at fault.
Stop using a brush immediatly as you will damage your hair even more use a very wide tooth comb they use on afro hair as this is a lot less damaging.

i was a hairdresser 10 years ago so i am not up to date with new products but i can tell you that relaxing is realy the reverse of a perm and if your hair is broken not falling at the root your hairdresser is to blame i have never heard that you have breakage after pregnancy this is a fob off i advise you get a second oppinion from a good hairdresser and then go back and tell your bad hairdresser you would like free restructuring treatment to prevent further damage

get a good protein treatment from a different hair dresser. the neutralizer puts the bonds back together that were broken from the thio or relaxer. neutralizer is good your hair does fall out after having a baby because it took 9 mos to get that way it takes that long to get back to normal but excessive breakage is not normal. try a911 emergency treatment a good hairdresser will know what that is and also get a home protein pak u can use and a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner also try getting a haircut to close the cuticle on the ends. goood luck and don't worry it will grow back!!! it's just hair.

sounds like they have really damaged it! There are some terrible hairdressers around. Last week one dyed my hair totally the wrong colour! So I sympathise. Not much you can do, just cut and condition it I guess.
