I was hand delivered a wedding invitation addressed to me and my boyfriend (my name appeared first). The response card contains a blank that says M ______________ . What do we write in the blank? Do we mark out the "M" and write our names without a prefix? Or do we respond in the order that the invitation was addressed? Or do we put his name first? Does it even matter??

I would write on it the following ; Miss Annie Price and Mr Tom Matthews will be joining you on your special day.

It doesn't matter which name you put first. Either Miss Smith and Mr Jones, or Mr Jones and Miss Smith is the correct way to respond. If you wanted to be a smart a** about it, you could just put "Me and Joe", or "My boyfriend and I", and leave it at that. But since the bride or groom is obviously a friend or relative, best not do that.

I don't know about you, but every time I get a wedding invitation I am ***SOOOOOOOOO*** glad that they saved me all that trouble of writing the "M". I just can't imagine the time and effort that I would waste doing that myself if they hadn't printed it there!!! :)

As to your question, I agree with toffeebluecake.

(couldn't resist sharing my thought) :)
