If he speaks the same language you do, in the language you both speak. If he speaks a different language that you don't, perhaps your friend could act as an interpreter.
Seriously, you would communicate with him the same way you would if it was a girl you had never met with your friend. Be cordial, friendly and ask a few questions about whether they just moved to your area, if they go the same school as you, and basically get to know a little about them. They might just be a cousin from who knows where visiting your friend.
