I don't think so. The only GOOD rock bands such as Aerosmith and The Rolling Stones are getting old and might retire any time soon. And the new rock bands are crappy and they are pretending to be goth or punk.(It's actually pathedic)

The influence of mainstream music on the youth culture is tremendous and usually negative. Rap is not the only culprit guilty of turning young people into fake, superficial, instant gratification brats, there are many other contributing factors to this. As for a rebirth of rock, I personally don't believe it will ever re-achieve its former status. The rock bands that come out now are so much different then they use to be, and no where near as good. Hopefully the rap garbage that is coming out now is a phase that will die soon, but I doubt it. The kids that listen to rap and want to be thugs in the future will either grow out of it and go on to do productive things in their lifes, or take the B.S. seriously and go on to be criminals. It depends less on the music they listen to when they are young, and more on the type of person they are. It is ultimately their decision, not the brainwashing of commercialized mainstream music.

I hope to see a rebirth of rock, and a revamping of rap. Pretty much, the mainstream music sucks right now, regardless of what genre, with only a couple exceptions (like KT Tunstall, she has talent). That would be the best, but the only difference between a "rebirth" of rap and rock is that you have to go deeper than the radio to hear it. That and good artists will never again get paid well, because them to sell less albums which will lead to them producing less albums. Also, since all this talk of how rap is a bad influence on kids, let me just say this. RAP WAS INFLUENCED BY THE PROBLEMS OF SOCIETY, SO NATURALLY RAP WILL NOW INFLUENCE THE PROBLEMS OF SOCIETY. It's called reciprocal determinism, and it's your parents faults for voting people like Reagan and Bush into office.

Gee I sure like to think good rock&roll will make a comeback.I think what rock needs is a break through band with it's roots firmly implanted in the classics of rock&roll and heavy metal, cause rap IS getting old and drawn out.If rock doesn't make a last stand to retake popular music the children of the future will all be gangsters and thugs hellbent on the destruction of the civilized world as we know it!!

Unfortunetly, I think rap may go through the same stages rock did. It will slowly progress through the beginning of its lifetime for about 20-30 years more, then die down to pave the way for a new genre.
Perhaps this generations kids just may decide that the music their parents listen to is getting lame and that they want to make a real impact on society by finally picking a guitar and drum sticks, and rocking just like God intended.

The old school rock is coming back my friend. A lot of people are getting into Led Zeppelin, ACDC, Black Sabbath, The Rolling Stones and the Beatles
Hopefully rap will just die out. But I doubt that will happen

Rebirth of Rock? Rock never died. Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones (how many times have they said it was their "last tour"?) KISS, Zepplin, etc. I could go on & on. All the new bands today on the radio & such are actually taking the "old" music lyrics and just putting a new beat to it that makes it sound "new". But more & more are actually trying to listen to the "older" stuff, because it is ACTUALLY music, and not just a "thump here a thump there" or "a string here & oh, a string there".
Thanks for the question.
Take care.

God I hope it will stop. I remember once Carson Daly (sp?) went on a rant about the hip hoppers and rappers being at a homeless fundraiser or something. He went on to say "Where are the rockers? Why aren't they helping?"
My answers for this:
1. They probably weren't invited.
2. They were probably at home WRITING THEIR OWN SONGS AND PRACTICING THEIR INSTRUMENTS.
Anyway, I detest most of the non-music that is rap and hip-hop. Granted, there are some good groups out there from these genres also, but the ability to look hot while singing should not make you a superstar in the world of music.

I ask myself this everyday! I sure hope it stops, the music is disgusting. And all that stuff is about sex and money and its pathetic. I think rock has a chance at a comeback...
If it doesnt stop, I think everyone is going to go broke. And theres going to be a huge gap between upper and lower class. That generation is screwed...
Until people open their ears and actually listen to the crap they're listening too, lets pray for the rebirth of rock.

My 3 year old nephew was wearing a g(ay)- unit shirt today....
his mother seems to think it's funny to dress my white nephew like a little gangster.
I however am rebeling and buying him these shirts:
acdc
guns n roses
pantera
as i lay dying
godsmack
and a few others.
no way in hell is my nephew not going to be a rocker. his dad is a rocker, his pops is a rocker and his aunt is a rocker.
Plus he's pretty good on his baby dimebag guitar already!
(All right)
Hey there, all you middle men
Throw away your fancy clothes
And while you're out there sittin on a fence
So get off your *** and come down here
Cause rock n roll ain't no riddle man
To me it makes good, good sense
Good sense
Ow, oooh yeah
Heavy decibels are playing on my guitar
We got vibrations coming up from the floor
We're just listening to the rock that's giving too much noise
Are you deaf, you wanna hear some more
We're just talkin about the future
Forget about the past
It'll always be with us
It's never gonna die, never gonna die
Rock n roll ain't noise pollution
Rock n roll ain't gonna die
Rock n roll ain't noise pollution
Rock n roll it will survive
Yes it will, ha ha ha ha
I took a look inside your bedroom door
You looked so good lying on your bed
Well, I asked you if you wanted any rhythm and love
You said you wanna rock n roll instead
We're just talkin about the future
Forget about the past
It'll always be with us
It's never gonna die, never gonna die
Rock n roll ain't noise pollution
Rock n roll ain't gonna die
Rock n roll ain't no pollution
Rock n roll is just rock n roll
Oh, Rock n roll ain't noise pollution
Rock n roll ain't gonna die
Rock n roll ain't no pollution
Rock n roll ain't gonna die
Rock n roll ain't no pollution
Rock n roll, it'll never die
Rock n roll ain't no pollution
Rock n roll
Oh,rock n roll is just rock n roll

Rock is the most awesome genre of music in the world in my opinion. Not a fan of rap, but, it is a strong genre. 20+ years already! Not all white kids want to be thugs. Not all black people are thugs.
Hope this helps!
God Bless!
