I'm a native & it is overrated. Real new yorkers don't live in Manhattan for one thing. It's usually people from other states/countries that come to the city and "just have to live in Manhattan!" Real NYs would never pay the ridiculous rents when they can live in one of the boroughs just a short train ride away. And yeah, there's a lot to do but it still gets old after a while. NY is a great place to live & it's hard for me to think of living anywhere else but when I think about the traffic, the high rents, the fierce competition to get good jobs, the dirty, unreliable subway system, the taxes, the high level of men who don't want to commit since there are so many other women available, etc, etc...I can see myself leaving. There's been a reverse migration in the past few years. A lot of people have moved south or out west. It's hard for a young person to make a good start in life in NY. If you get a good paying job, you can barely afford to live in a decent neighborhood. And buying a home is becoming close to impossible; getting the downpayment alone is a job in itself! I say NYC is a great place to live if you have a lot of $. If not, you're just part of the rat race like the rest of us trying to get by.

I'm a native Nyer. Great place to live if you have over $1 million dollars to get a fabulous apartment on Central Park West or Soho.
And also great if you have the money for the lifestyle, expensive restauarnts, theatre, shows, private car to take you around, etc..
If you are a millionaire, NYC will make you happy and it will be a wonderful place to live.

If you have below 1 million dollars its not so great.. You get an apartment thats a size of a bathroom and pay $1,800 a month rent.
The subway life--
You take the subway with people pushing and shoving , criminal looking people, ghetto looking people. Some men even masturbate at women on the train. -theres been many cases in recent years..Also expect people on the subway when you are sitting to spead their legs as wide open as possible and lean their arm on you giving you no space to sit..Train also smells like urine. Best bet is to read a book to avoid eye contact with freaks and being depressed.

Crime-
Crime is still high despite what some say,, you have to be careful going out alone after 11 pm, look over your shoulder, carry mace. Always be alert of your surrounding, never be alone at late hours or drunk. The most crime In NYC happens between 3 am-6am..

The People (in Manhattan )

People are generally not friendly at all, rude, superficial, on guard and stuck up.. They walk and will not get of of your way, expect to be bumped into everyday. Give dirty looks all day.
NYC is 40% hispanic,. High influx of Dominicans and Puerto Ricans as well.. good idea to learn spanish if you move here.

Dating:
Men and women have their guard up, are not friendly, they are stuck up, have "hard" personas.. Not easy to meet people even if you are very good looking. for example, at a bar the single good looking people -mostly men dont talk to anyone because their "too good or stuck up " to, so thats why theres such a high number of single women here. I feel the men think they are so great because they paid $3 million dollars for their studio apartment..

Los Angeles is much better- more friendly and down to earth, less stress from walking the streets, taking the train, worrying about being robbed, raped, and killed at night.
NYC is just as superficial as LA, except in LA they smile..

Nyers leaving::
Many native Nyers have left NYC and are on their way out because of the cost of living. You have to be a millionaire to live here and be comfortable-thats a fact, Even if you are a millionaire, why would you want to pay 1 million dollars for a studio apartment the size of your college dorm?
better to move to Upsate NY- Armonk, NY and pay $1 million for a nice house.
before Mayor Bloomberg came in, it was not like this..

Red Devyl has hit the mark! Even housing on LI is outta control! You can't even find a fixer upper under $300,000?!?
I can see myself leaving in the not too distant future. My Taxes alone right now are cheap (compared to other homes) at $8000 a year. Now do the math for a $300,000 mort with taxes of $8000 a year & don't forget H.O. Ins & car ins! Its a killer!!!!

i do no longer understand that plenty approximately it NYC, yet once you intend on merely romancing her with the view, then i might attempt to flow to a posh eating place. e book it in strengthen. attempt to get a seat on their little patio style ingredient, as on the edge of the sting as obtainable. in the event that they don't have one, attempt to get a seat close to a window that faces the fireworks. in case you do no longer plan on eating, then i might discover a park thats nearby the fireworks. attempt to discover a tree arch, a tree with quite some leaves, or a place between 2 ponds. ensure you're no longer everywhere close to human beings, yet ensure you're dealing with the fireworks.

I'm not a native but I think New York city and other cities like it are over crowded. man or woman was not meant to live elbow to elbow. If you like going out at anytime of the day or night to do things then you will like it. It is a state of mind.

Just another reason we should stop sending money to Detroit, let it burn itself down and then we can install a new city.
