Here in England (and other places in the world where freshwater Perch can be found), there's a wide variety of baits that can be used.... some of the most popular being:
- Earth Worms (all types... lobworms, redworm, brandlings etc)
- Small deadbaits (other fish)
- Spinners (e.g. Mepps Size2, or equivalents by other brands)
- Maggots
- Sweetcorn

I've alway's heard of perch as "bait stealers" my favorite is about half of a worm and slide it length wise over the hook to help keep it on the hook.

Perch are predators so normally you would use a "non vegitarian bait" such as a night crawler, grub or minnow. Perch can grow as large as 4lbs (about 2 Kg)

use a very small hook and cover the very tip of the barb(s) with almost any thing with a scent, worms work best hot dogs alos work, only cover the tip of the barb if not they will have a fun time striping off the bait with out even touching the barb.

MOST ANGLERS USED PLASTIC BAITS AND JIGS NOW FOR ALL TYPES OF PAN FISH.
YOU CAN COVER 10 TIMES THE WATER AS ONE WITH LIVE "BAITS" LIKE WORMS OR SMALL MINNOWS OR CRICKETS..

My personal favorite is to get a really small hook and put a very small peice of shrimp on the end of the barb. You'll hook a million of them that way.
