What is the national age for being able to baby sit ?

there is no "national " agr for babysitter. parent should use their discretion when choosing who to leave their children with.

My sister started at 13. So did I. We had both taken babysitting courses but I'm not sure what the national age is. My sister and I didnt really have to worry about that because we were "private" babysitters. We only babysat for families on our street if they asked us to. As long as the parents of the children hire you personally, you can be any age that they feel is appropriate. We mainly babysat for our neighbors. But if you do want to babysit, I would recommend knowing CPR and the Heimlich. My sister had to do the Heimlich on my neighbors 1 year old once. The babys sister made her laugh during dinner and she started choking on a peach. My sister jumped up and started the Heimlich on her and she shouted, "Jessie (one of the girls names) Call 9-1..." and then the peach popped out. The baby cried because she was scared but came out fine. She had to do it again once when my child started choking on a pickle. She has saved 2 babies lives and its all because she took the time to take a CPR course in babysitting classes.

I think it is thirteen, but make sure the babysitter has taken a course in how to do the hemelich (sp?) maneuver, and the basic training as far as recognizing danger and what to do in case of emergencies.

I Think it depends on the state. I do know for Ohio if the babysitter has taken a babysitting course (Red cross did mine) you can start at 12 yrs old. Check w/ your local Red cross they could tell you.

There's really no technical age...I would say at the earliest 6th grade.
13 years old or older.

i babysat when i was 12, till i was 17...but if i was choosing a babysitter i would say 16.
