What dog other than the Chihuahua is a suitable indoor type for a home-bound owner?

Yorkies, Terriers, Bichons, Welsh Corgies, Pugs, Dachshunds, Beagles. All are very loving dogs, easy to care for, and can be trained to be very well behaved. Oh and to the person that said black labs..umm they are medium to large breeds and rarely considered an "indoor" dog. They are runners, need to be outdoors and are very energetic. My boyfriend owns two, which are highly trained hunting dogs. Not that they don't make some of the most loving companions, but they hardly work as indoor dogs.

This is going to sound silly but get him bathed or groomed first and foremost (more for you than the dog). This will be a struggle for a couple of weeks. The fact you have a mixed breed is awesome. Most mixes are fun. You will need to either crate train or corder off an area until the dog has the chance to figure out the bathroom rules. Make sure you have a lot of time for the first few weeks and a lot more patience. The dog will probably be very grateful for the attention and adjust much quicker. Treats are often the best form of reinforcement for trianing. Good luck!

I have read and do believe from what I've read, that a Chi
doesn't like any other dogs than their own breed. I've seen
this to believe it. Our dog will tolerate a toy poodle tho that
she has encountered on her walks. Others she will bark and
growl around. We try to socialize our Chi with others when
we can. They love to play with each other. That's why when
we had a chance to save a younger Chi from a puppy mill
we did it recently. Together they play and enjoy each other,
and don't rely on us to entertain them. Just hold them when
it's nap time LOL. Now my husband has two sleeping with
him, since he's the "Alpha Dog" to them, at nap time, and
thru the night.
Incidentally, I am home bound also. The two Chi's give us
such laughter with their antics. They are now bonding with
each other as well continuing to bond with us.
If I had to get another small dog to play with our first Chi,
I would have gone to a Yorkie who's also small. Our previous
dog was a Bichon Frise, a larger type of small dog. We don't
regret trying the Chi on for size. We love her and the new
addition as well. They really fill our hearts!

Pomeranian, Pug, French Bulldog, Minature Poodle, Bichon Frise, Lhaso Alpso, Shih Tzu, and a lot of other toy breeds, but you will want to stay away from the ones with an over abundance of energy if the person is home bound.

If this home-bound person is not able to pick up a dog then a small dog that is able to jump up on a bed or in their lap would be nice. A Dachshund would have a harder time jumping up on a bed but a small 'Schnauzer would be able to. So when looking for a dog you might want to look for a dog that is not so small that it has to be carried around and lifted up to a sofa or bed.

Are there any physical restrictions for the home bound person? If not, any toy or small-sized dog is a good choice. Yorkies are very affectionate.

Give some thought to coat length. Short hairs will be everywhere and embed in furniture/clothing whereas with long coats the long hairs fall out more like human hair and are easier to sweep or suck-up with out blowing all through the air. ANY/EVERY dog SHOULD be INDOOR they are "pack" animals. Good luck!

I have a golden retreiver and she's a great indoor dog. You may be looking for something smaller though, like a poodle or a basset hound.

just about any dog can be an indoor dog...except for maybe really big ones. i have a jack russell terrier and she's about medium sized. but you could get just about any sized dog you want. i would suggest visiting your local shelter and finding one there...they are sooo grateful to be saved and they make the best dogs...
