Get yourself a live trap and use a can of cat food as bait. I've done this myself with a few cats and it's a challenge getting them into the vet's office, but it's so worth it. Really a great thing you're doing.

Don't. Strays are not trained animals. I personally work with rescue units and HSC's for strays in the streets. Most strays are friendly and talkative and really are only hungry and in need of attention. Most were indoor cats abondoned. But if you come across a stray that is wild and will most likely attack you, I would try and feed the pet first. He is most likely alarmed and think that you will hurt him.
I personally, have never encountered a wild stray, all seem to be friendly and willing to come with me when i find adoptees for them.
Strays do not have vaccinations which mean, if he/she gets alert/alarmed, and bite you, you risk the chance of contracting rabies.

Use either a squirrel or raccoon trap( you can get these at most local farm supply stores) and put a can of wet cat food in it. This will also decrease your chance of gettings any diseases or infections from the cat.

Go to Alley Cat Allies...they have a wealth of info on that subject. TNR is great and giving these homeless cats a better life. Kudos for helping them.

if you want to bring it in for sterilization you should probably talk to animal control or the animal shelter. But don't try catching it yourself, you should probably leave that to the professionals. Although it may look cute, stray animals can carry spreadable diseases harmful to your health.

You can get a cage from the shelter to catch it to take it to the vet. Otherwise you can feed it till it trusts you enough to catch it. P.S. It is extremely rare for a cat to have rabies!

Your local animal shelter should have some one for you to borrow. The one in my town does and it's totally free.
