I was really insulted by your insensitive remark to my question. If I ever see you in person, I will beat your face in so hard, your own mother won't recognize you.

The perked ears allow for the dog to hear better, while the drooped ears protect the ear canal (from water, brush, etc) and help stir up the scent and drift it to the nose. There is also visual aesthetics involved, but they do have a purpose.

The droppy ears pick up the scent of what ever the dog is hunting and gives the dog the ability to follow that scent and not be distracted by other scents.

Terriers do ***NOT*** all have *PRICK* (the CORRECT/"GROWN-UP" term)!!! More have FOLDED ears than prick!

Ear-set & carriage have NOTHING to do w/QUARRY,either LOCATING *OR* WORKING it! If you ever actually SAW terrier-work,you'd know that ALL their ears are PINNED BACK while at WORK!
Has NOTHING to do w/the stupid "granny-tale" of keeping dirt out either!

Spaniels do NOT "hunt" waterfowl! They *may* be called on to retrieve already SHOT birds in water but were & ARE bred for UPLAND birds=locating & pointing or FLUSHING them to the guns!!
The silly "ears gather scent" story is BULLSHI*!!!! People just *LOVE* their fairy-tales,don't they? Even in the face of REALITY!!!
