I had a terrible misunderstanding with a boyfriend, and he spent a year hating me because of something he misunderstood. It was very important for me to be forgiven by him, and I was, but I do not think he still really cares about me. He wants to keep in touch, but that would just be unnecessarily painful for me, and hold me back in my life. This is the email I was thinking of sending:

I hear what you are saying. I think, though, that it would be hard for me to be friends with you on your terms.

I want to work things out. I know it probably seems stupid and overwhelming to you to get multiple, conflicting emails from me, but I really wanted to handle things differently than they were handled.

Keeping in touch on your terms would be hard for me.

Other than that, I do not think it is something I would really be comfortable with. You seem to have gotten over me, and I have already put too much on the line top be able to go back to being friends.

Or, do I really need to say anything?

i think you said it all, just let him know that you want to be
friends but right now it hurt to much to do this. keep it simple
and to the point.

Why email. is he that far away? emails and texts are the lowest form of communication when it comes to relationships. lose the emails and the texts and meet this face to face, eye to eye. if, up to this point he's been very indifferent to you, don't even bother with any of the above. move on and keep on. indifference is the opposite of love. it's a good indicator. Look for what's not there.
