I have wanted to travel to Guyana or Trinidad and Tobago. Are there places there I could stay that are safe, yet beautiful, and a family could stay there. I would really love some good help, thanks!

hey dude!! i live in Trinidad. definitely here is better than Guyana. In Tobago, you can't go wrong with the reputable hotels such as Blue Waters Inn, Coco Reef Resort and Mount Irvine Beach Club. the water all around Tobago is beautifully clean and clear, especially the well known beaches like Pigeon Point and no man's land. surfing is great at Mt Irvine if you're into that. In Trinidad, it's a whole different story. tobago is for relaxing, trinidad is for partying. stay in the capital Port of Spain and you can go to nightclubs, bars and pubs any night of the week. our beaches are not as nice because we have the runoff from the Orinico river in Venezuela, but still ok for swimming and surfing. your best bet for hotels here are the Hilton and smaller inns such as Coblentz Inn (st anns), the Normandie (st anns). don't go to guesthouses, they are small and dirty. pay a little more for a better place. your money will go a long way here, it's $6.33 TT to $1 U.S., in other words, come with $1000 US and you have almost $7000 TT to play with. always change your money at a bank though. car rentals are pretty standard if you drive, we drive on the left side of the road here and the taxis can make it kind of hairy. (driving in the taxis may give you a heart attack, so you should probably drive). food and partying here are cheap compared to US prices - a local beer here (Carib or Stag) is the equivalent of $1 US and are really good. we have lots of great food too - Indian, Creole, Italian, French, you name it, we have it. very affordable! our people are very friendly and will be quick to show you around or help you out. however, use your common sense as you would anywhere else. don't move around with lots of cash or jewelry and don't go to secluded places alone at night. I have never really googled my own country, but I am sure if you type in Trinidad and Tobago you'll get some info as to hotels, prices, etc. I hope I've helped....oh yeah, if I could recommend one time of year to visit, it would be Carnival. It's only 2 days in February every year but the partying starts on Boxing Day after Christmas and goes on till Ash Wednesday. you can book a costume online, I recommend Harts (www.hartscarnival.com) or just come down and watch it if you don't want to play mas. it's lots of fun and lots of drinking and "liming" (hanging out). if you need anymore help feel free to email me. hope I helped!

I would say Trinidad would be the better choice. You can go to this site: www.socawarriors.net or maybe http://www.ttonline.org/index.php
You can ask people at both of these websites about Trinidad and they will be more than happy to help you out.

Good luck!
