So I'm currently learning German, and I know single words can mean phrases (ex. Schadenfreude=happiness at others misfortunes) so is there a word for something along the lines of "sacrificing yourself/your happiness for the happiness of those you care about" if so what is it and what exactly does it translate to?

Selbstaufopferung [noun, die] = self-sacrifice
Selbstlosigkeit [noun, die] = selflessness
Altruismus [noun, der] or Uneigennützigkeit [noun, die] = altruism

I don't think you will find a one-word answer to that. I would say " sich selbst opfern" or " for self-sacrifice or "ausopfern"
to offer oneself completely.
Anything else, and you might be up against one of those monster multi-syllabic terms...
