If you can see one room to the next or have adjoining walls, such as living room to dining room or kitchen to great room, etc., those walls should definitely be the same color. Enclosed rooms, such as bedrooms or bathrooms can be separate colors. It's the trim that should be the same color throughout. Color can add such visual interest to a room. Neutrals can be so boring, so if you are afraid of color on the walls, I only ask that you consider neutrals with some creativity and try to find something new and interesting besides the standard off white, eggshell, taupe, tan, cream, etc. There are a lot of beautiful neutrals that can still have pizzazz and visual interest and give a hint of color without it exactly being there. Choose something that has a hint of blue if you like blue, like the color Soft Spoken, or a hint of green if you like green, like the color Ivanhoe Estate, or a bit of a touch of gray like the White Dove or bit of a peach like the Apricot Blush. Grays mixed with warm colors are a big color trend right now. Then you can put your color in your accessories that aren't so scary.

The trim should be the same color most of the time. Using an ivory/cream color for the trim and ceiling is a neat trick when u use darker colors to make it look like white but with an elegant soothing look. As far as the room colors... as long as there is trim/molding dividing the rooms then its pretty safe to use different colors.

It usually looks better to have the trim the same color throughout the house. It creates the connection for all the rooms. As for color, you can do whatever you like, but the newer houses have open floor plans, so it's better to have colors that complement each other, to create a flow from room to room. Try Lowe's.com, they have a virtual painter under their projects link. You can paint sample rooms in hundreds of colors to find what you like, & see what goes with what. It's a great way to see how your house will look before you buy your paint, & helps get rid of the worry that it won't look good.

No, all the rooms don't need to be the same color. I'd suggest that you keep them all restful tones. Like green for plant tones, or blue for water or sky tones, or brown earth tones. And make the colors muted enough so that nothing jars you as you travel thru the house.
