The bad news is that you can't (legally) download the Microsoft Office Suite for free from the Internet, unless it's the 60-day trial of MS Office 2007:

The good news is that there are replacements which you can download from the internet for free.
I highly recommend AbiWord if it's just word-processing you need at the moment, or OpenOffice.org for a full office suite (word processor. spreadsheet, presentation, etc). Both are absolutely free, highly featured, able to read and save in MS Office formats, and are popular too.

Of course, you can try other software as well. Here's a Google search to get you going.

Also, depending on the complexity of editing requirements of your daughter's work, even Microsoft WordPad can get it done (at least in the meantime).
Hope this helps. Good luck!

visit the site called Microsoft downloading center. you get 60 days trail software only. visit the site called sunmicrosystems there you can get free word software. but during the period 2000 and 2002 they distributed the software freely but now I don't now. There also you can get free version unlimited but some of features may not work

No, you would need the disk. You can download Open Office for free, I think. It is very much like Word.

I would be VERY leery of downloading Microsoft software from any but a Microsoft site. You're apt to get more than you bargained for.
