I've never had trouble with our dog chewing things outside.
But early on, we went to the Goodwill stores and starting
looking thru the tables of small toys for 49c each. And found
alot of chewable things for her to teeth with. Also small stuffed
animals and such to toss and also play with. She showed us
she had built in knowlege to retrieve. We also have bought
her chews from the grocery store. But the best all around chew is one she can eat. They are shaped like a wrench and
are green and filled with Clorofphil. One or two small ones
a day have kept her from chewing anything else she found.
They also keep her regular :). There is one thing she still
will rip to shreds as a 4 year old today. And that is chewing
waste basket garbage, and underwear laying about. So we
have to make sure those things are out of range for sure.

Bones! Dogs need to chew on something solid. Get him a large bone from the butcher, and you won't see him for hours. When he's finished with it, take it away and dispose of it, then give him another one. If he buries it, he's saving it for later, so leave it be, if it's not in the middle of the p[ath or something.
