It's been hurting for a couple of months now. I'm pretty good at ignoring it but the last couple of days I haven't been able to.

Very first thing in the morning take a warm shower. Sleep with a pillow between your knees. Take an antiinflammatory such as motrin and see a doc.

OK - you describe a problem that is getting progressively worse. . .that is not a good thing. If you have not been to the doctor by now, you need to go. I say this because I have no clue about where this pain is coming from. If there was no injury, if it just came out of the blue, then we need to rule out a few serious medical conditions - your family doctor is good at that part.

Once the doctor has determined that whatever it is that is bothering you is not going to kill you, ask them to refer you to physical therapy. Your PT can help relieve your pain in the short-term, and help you develop long-term strategies to keep the pain away.

Go to APTA.org, click on "find a PT", and search your home area.

Good luck!

I don't know your age, or how much physical activity you get, but having scoliosis myself, I have a couple of suggestions.

1. Try to stay in shape. Don't carry around too much extra weight.

2. Do slow stretching exercises. DO NOT BOUNCE!

Before doing any of the above, see a doctor. For the short term, you can get a combination of muscle relaxers & anti-inflamitory pills. Don't rely on these pills. when you are able, take the two suggestions I posted.

You might have strained it or possibly ruptured a disc. Did you fall or lift anything to heavy? Try putting an analgesic rub on it. Sometimes taking a very warm shower and have the spray aimed at that area while rotating your hips helps. Also, put a heating pad on it, but not with the ointment on at the same time. It could cause you to burn yourself. Also, take an noninflammatory, such as, Tylenol or Motrin. Good Luck. You may need to see a doctor.

I get this crazy pain between my shoulder blades because of stress, and it's been going on for a few years now, too. If it's a muscular pain the thing that seems to relieve it best is to pinpoint the pain, and get someone to dig their elbow into it to unknot the muscle. For me, the harder that the elbow is dug into my back, the better it feels, but make sure it's not too hard. If it's lower back pain, you may want to adjust your mattress, you may not be getting enough support. I don't know if this applies, but people who are overweight around their stomach tend to have the lower back pain because the stomach pulls foward on the spine. You may also want to try stretching for a few minutes to untie knotted muscles.

Consult the doctor. Sounds like you have a serious problem. Althernatively, find a professional massage therapist and go see her/him several times a week. That might help.

well not to get personal, but do you have strong abdominal muscles? sometimes that helps your back to strengthen your abdominal muscles. If the pain starts to radiate to your legs you should check with a doc. you may have done something. just don't go to a chiropractor.
