it's not really silent. It has greek origins and they don't have an F, the use PH for F

The letter P is silent in the word phone because that is the way our English language pronounces it. You actually say it with the sound of "f".

Well not really silent just different sounding.

other wise it would just sound like Hone. but the ph sounds like the letter F

Speaking of PH(...did you know that the optimal PH of the blood is exactly 7.365 according to Dr Robert O Young. Phd.

It is not silent. The combination 'PH' is what's called a diphthong, and is used to create sounds not available from a single letter in an alphabet.

Its not. The letter k in knife is silent. But in Phone, the p sort of mates with the h to make the "F" sound.
English is retarded, so is this question.

Because English is retarted!!!

The founders made it so complicated! It would be so much easier if we could spell phonetically. There are so many exceptions in our english language so many, there might as well not be any rules. It is realy complicated.
