vomiting and weight loss can be a number of things, especially in an old cat. Id recommend taking her into the vet for a geriatric blood work up to check her organ functions. If she isnt going into any liver or kidney failure, then the next step is to check her thyroid which would also cause the vomiting and weight loss. You dont want to wait too long for these tests.. hope she gives you another 14 years of life!

I really hate to tell you this, but as others have said, it sounds like she wants to go away to die. Cats instinctually hide to pass on so that their bodies are protected from elements and predators. I had a cat that just dissapeared a few years ago. She was an indoor/outdoor cat, but for the few days before she left, she only wanted to be outside. I think she went off to find a peaceful spot and pass on.

You could take her to the vet, though, on the off chance she is just really sick.

I am sorry to say this but it does seem that she is dying. Our cat was the same way. She wants to go out so that she can find a place to pass. They dont like to do it at "home". If it is really bad and she is lossing alot of weight and not really eating (not keeping it down) you might want to do the loving thing and have her put to sleep. Its hard..I have been there to, but in the end you stop her suffering. It is with true love for your pet that you can end thier pain.

I'm afraid I have to agree with the majority here. Our cat, Nickers, lived a very happy existance inside. He never really even acted like he wanted out. One day he got out but we caught him and brought him back in. The next night he managed to sneak out again. I found him the next morning at the edge of the woods. He looked like he was just sleeping, but he had passed. We thought he might have been poisoned so took him to vet for autopsy. The vet said his heart exploded. He also said it is not uncommon for animals to try to go away to die. He didn't say why, but I believe it is because they don't want to break our hearts by us having to watch them die. Take her to the vet to be checked and if it is her time to go, have her put down so she doesn't suffer.

Cats will go away to die because in nature it is inviting other cats to move in and take over the territory so she will do it to protect the others in her fold, that's probably what she wants to do. Take her to the vet and have her euthanised, it's much kinder than letting her suffer, it's her time.

She might be looking for a place to die. . Or she's looking for a hot tom cat for one last fling. Sounds crass, but cats are The rulers of humans and they have secretive lives.

I hope I'm not right, but when I was growing up we had a cat for 17 yrs, her name was Gracie, and when it came close for her to die, she wanted to go out and away from us, my Collie did the same, its almost like they dont wanna break are hearts, so they go off and die. But I hope I'm not right. Take her to the vet.

has she seen the vet? mine did this just before she got lumps, fibro melanoma. it turned out to be her dimise after 6 yrs of treament.
she may also be doing a "menapause". it truly happens in animals as well as humans.
spend the cash for blood work. seek a second or third opiion if you need, if you choose.
good luck, healthy wishes to kitty!

I am so sorry, but I too think that she may be dying. My really old Maine Coon ran away right before we moved out of state. My neighbor's found him in the woods behind our house. He had passed away.

she is old and that in itself could be the problem but if she were my cat, and at that age, I would not waste my time asking the nuts on here. I would be at a vet with her.
