Do you insist on a purebred dog? If you do not intend to show a dog is there any reason to pay for a bred dog with papers? They can cost from hundreds to thousands of dollars, and depending on the breed, or breeder can often have more health problems than a mixed breed dog.

I suggest you be one of the people that makes a difference in reduceing the number of dogs that have to be put down needlessly each year by adopting a pet. You will get a good, loving companion, and will feel good knowing you helped save the life of your new best friend!

Check out this organization located in San Jose. http://www.sbprdogs.org/

I know a school teacher that adopted a lovable, friendly purebred Chow from them.

The United States. Democratic status. Was the source of the controversy at Valley Forge. The founding fathers were democratic. The people who wanted a republic almost starved the entire American army out to prove their point. Then it was set up as a democracy for the people and Thomas Jefferson ended up speaking a lot about it. Then these losers called the puratins came in, representing the republic (big businesses). They fought for almost 100 years to reverse the constitution and all the equal rights stuff. Now you see it, they still try to make it a nazi or king james state. But most of what they have done is public. Because of their joker mentality, now many huge financial industry based entities have more power then people and actually contradict what America stands for. America is supposed to be a democracy, but because of the corrupt idiots who took unrestrained actions. Some things like the federal government. Even though they are a corporation. As a ruling body. It's just a mish mash of good people and dirty people who support business over people.

You should try the local shelters/humane society. They always have dogs needing homes (even puppies). You could also try petfinder.com for a list of breed specific rescue organizations. For goodness sakes, don't ever line the pockets of the greedy pet shops, puppy mill owners or breeders, it'll only encourage them to keep increasing the number of unwanted dogs in this world.

Search online with the city/ area u live eg NEW YORK Poodle rescue or Dog/ Pet rescue for Animal rescues or breed rescues - they have dogs & puppies that are pure & mixed breeds of various ages all needing homes - dogs usally run for around 200 dollars ... Whatever you don - never buy puppies or anythin animal from pet stores , or people with ands in newspapers - alot of the animals are frompuppy mills & are not healthy & have many problems &came from very poor living conditions.

Stores will not sell you a new born puppy. Healthy puppies from responsible breeders do not leave their mothers until after they are 8 weeks old - and responsible breeders never sell their litters to a shop.
I just did a search on Petfinder for baby dogs in the zip code 95101 and hundreds came up. Go to http://www.petfinder.com and start your search there.

Go to a shelter. You probably won't find a purebreed, but the dogs there need homes badly. They are less expensive, too!
