God knew already that Abraham would not kill his son. However He allowed Abraham to prove that he would even do that to follow the Lord God.Abraham was the man who came to lead the chosen people. It wouldn't have been as convincing to say to the people that Abraham would probably kill his son for the Lord but it was well known He did trust the Lord to do as HE asked. He loved and trusted God enough to know He had a greater plan than He could know and that God would make it right and God did. Please look in Genesis 22:05 in the King James Version of the Bible." and Abraham said unto his young men,Abide you here with the donkey;and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.

God had no intention of letting Abraham kill his son. Read the whole story.

The purpose of this part of the Old Testament can't be fully understood outside of the context of Christianity.

This account was given to give a shadow of what was to come with the Father sacrificing His only Son by letting wicked men kill only His Son for the salvation of the world.

In the account, Abraham symbolized the Father. Isaac symbolized the Son, and the unnamed servant symbolized the Holy Spirit.

Isaac carried his own wood, Jesus carried his cross.

A ram was found with its head caught in a thicket. Jesus worn a crown of thorns on his head.

Plus, the place where Abraham was about to sacrifice Isaac is the same place where Jesus was crucified many centuries later.

Read it again, with understanding form God you wills ee it is a prophesy of what God did for Abraham and all of us not what he asked Abraham to do for him. It is an example of the atonement God provided for you. Issac carried the wood and the journey was 3 days as Christ was in the grave...on the way Issac asked his Father where is the lamb for sacrifice and Abraham told him the lord will provided himself a lamb. After Abraham performed the sacrifice of the ram that God provided he named the place Jehova Jirah which means the lord will provide because it is where he said the lord will provide himself a lamb. Much later the prophet Isaiah In Isaiah 53 prophesied the Messiah would come and atone for sin he too refered to him as a lamb...When Jesus came to John the baptist he said to the people behold the lamb of God... Jesus did fufill these prophesies and was the lamb of God who did atone for the sins of those who accept the atonement as Abraham did say and Moses and Isaiah..Jesus himself did say before Abraham was I am and Abraham knew him and rejoiced to see his day.

God had no intention of Abraham killing Isaac-God did it to test Abraham as to whether he loved his only son whom he counted most precious and dearest in his life, over his love of God and that reason was noted in the scriptures.

God is the only one who did that so your question is so irrelevant

Why would anyone want to or have to test their children's love by such a proposal-and upon rereading your question, it actually does not make sense!.

Well, lets analize this from a non-biblical stand. First, love is very demanding and requires a certain ammount of devotion and obedience (slackened sense). Welll, I don't know I love my family. When I can see that my wife wants something I will at least attempt to get it for her/give it to her.
Second, love requires concern for the others well being.
Of course then there's forethought. Had Ed Gean's grandfather known what that boy would do; would he have told...?

You need to read the whole story, and understand the context of the people and the time.....and He is God what did He care. He could have raised him from the dead the very next day....it was about obediance and trust, and washing away of all the superstitious god crap that his family used to believe in. If God spoke to you...and you really believed it was God..would you do what you were told?

Yes, it does ask for the sacrifice of a son. However, God did not follow through with this, it was only a test of faith. God said you should hate everything in comparison to him, and this is without a doubt one of the harder teachings of Christianity. In this leg, for example, I once asked my mother if someone killed me, if she could forgive that person. She said that she wasn't sure if she ever could. I think this is in the same vain, a Christian needs to trust in God that what He asks for is right. However, it is not asking for Christians to sacrifice their firstborn or anything these days...

God was doing two things by asking him to kill his son 1. He was testing his faith . Faith that god would take care of his son in heaven. 2. It was a bit of prophesy ,a dry run so to speak when God offered up His son to slaughter for atonement for our sins.Think about that. God really had no intention of letting Abraham kill his son.

If we all lived according to the old testament like sleeping with your daughters, committing genocide, raping your enemies, grabbing the land of others...we should all end up in hell. But then this is the word of god......

So, no, a *claim* was made that God told Abraham to do it. Just like that lady who dumped her kids into SF Bay said God told *her* to do that. Again, science has come a very, very long way in 2000 years in diagnosing psychoses.
