It depends.

If you mean "Can I get A1AD if I have sex with someone who has it?" The answer is - NO.

A1AD, alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, is a hereditary condition that affects the liver and causes a lifelong deficiency of an important protein known as Alpha-1 Antitrypsin. So, since it is genetic or based on your parents having sex and then having you - the answer to your question could be "YES". A1AD in an individual is the result of two people having sex and having a baby and having passed on two deficient genes that have combined to create an individual with A1AD. That individual may or MAY NOT go on to develop lung, liver or skin disease.

www.alpha1.org and www.alphaone.org - two great places for more information.

If you simply want to love someone with A1AD - that's ok too.
