If you're serious, the safe way to go is a glass of white wine if you don't want to talk to her first. The best way to do it is to walk up to her and ask 'can I buy you a drink' and let her order whatever she wants.
Although some of the suggestions could work (i.e., not all women like sweet drinks), letting her pick what she wants is the best bet.
If you're too shy to do that, wait for the waitress or bartender take her order, then pay for the drink before the waitress / bartender delivers the drink. When the girl gets the drink, the waitress/bartender can say 'this drink is on the gentleman over there'.

Just ask her what her favourite drinks are. Poeples tastes are just so varied. There's nothing wrong with asking, in fact you'll probably earn points by showing her how thoughtful you are to actually ask her :)
