Numerology started way before witch hunts. the number 6 in biblical tradition has its own meaning. 7 means perfect. Christ is seen in Rev as having 7 horns (all powerful) with 7 eyes (all wise). The beast is 666 because he will never be perfect, always less than.
Wiccans have changed 6 to mean those things because of Christianity, not the other way around. Get your facts straight before posting.
Keep in mind that biblical prophesies are written in symbolism's and these symbols should not be taken literally, which is a common mistake in movies and fiction.

There is no number of the beast that was an invention by Christian dogma. It especially came into play when witch hunts started. In fact, in numerology (the study of numbers and their meanings) six is related to harmony, domesticity, and peaceful happiness. This massively contradicts the association of triple sixes with the Christian hell.

However let me see if I can figure this out.
Take the numerical equavilents of the letters in teh word "beast" and do the following.
(S * B * A) + E - T = 23
