My dog is a sheltie and she is 4 years old and is deaf. She gets very scared to leave our driveway and has only walked on a leash on the way back to our house.So, How do I teach her to walk on the leash?

When she cooperates, give her praise, walk her to the end of the drive and praise her, with a pat, or a scratch or a small doggie treat. Sooner or later, you'll be able to coax her onto the sidewalk.

Take her out on the leash more often, but stay as close to her as possible. Then after a while just let her walk on her own. My dog doesnt like her leash either, but the more I took her on a leash she got used to it.

Use a short leash and make it a daily routine. The more she is on the leash the more she will get used to it. Be sure not to drag her and give her plenty of water.

Start her very slow with walks on her drive and around the house. Use a chain collar with a large circle on each end . Then you can keep her at your left ankle when walking and give her constant encouragement with our voice and scent. Don't try to take her anyplace if she is scared. Look in your library for books or see if you can locate a club that gives lessons.
They usually give group lessons to pay for rent on rec centers to train their dogs in advanced skills. Maybe you can find someone who will give you a little basic training cheap.
