Granted, I HATE it when the government interferes with religious practices. However, in this case, its one giant leap for mankind. I believe that it's time to end the barbaric gender discrimination in Islam, and this will go a long ways towards helping.

Mark my words, though. Muslims will be burning cars in the streets before long, and England will eventually have to fold to pressure, or risk a civil war.

Edited to chastise the first poster - Ridiculous argument. Headgear of all kinds are already banned in most schools, whereas clothing styles such as robes are not. This isn't just a religious thing - Islam was just giving you a free pass when you shouldn't have deserved one. No more free passes for you.

I think it is sickening. I have yet to meet a hijabi Muslim woman who felt oppressed by wearing it. It is her choice to do so. It is her religion, and this has to be respected.

I will be very mad if England does this. It's oppressive for England to do that.

And to those who say that they should not live in England - are they unaware of the universality of Islam? It is a religion for anyone who chooses it - it is not a race-specific or country-specific religion. There are plenty of English people who have converted. They are as much English as everyone else, and have the right to follow the religion of their choice without oppression.

Its simple, its for security purposes. I think it is probably a decent decision. Then again I neither a Muslim, a female, nor convinced that I should where veils, so I may be slightly biased.

But its not just against Muslim veils, it would be against anything that covers or conceals a person's identity.

The Head scarf is part of the religous uniform just as nuns wear that scarf on their head which is very similar to the muslims.

It would have never gone that far if the Muslim community at large had not been so indifferent toward the various attacks by
the terrorists.

It surprises me how everyone is cheering for "individual freedom" and when it comes to a girl's wish to be modest and cover herself, everyone jumps up on her and starts stating that she's surpressed or that she has no will for it.

Pretty rediculous, I must say.

Peace.

That is sad... people should be able to wear their religious items in school... if they ban Muslim veils they should also ban crosses and jewish stars... it is either all or nothing

I don't think schools have the right to meddle with cultural or religious beliefs. It is their job to enlighten, not cover up.

That it is smart. If you don't want to part of the English culture, you probably shouldn't move to England. I wouldn't even consider moving to Saudi Arabia.
