I have a 4 month old lab who barks a lot and is very active! I checked with my vet just last week and she suggested a "citronella collar". It is a collar that has a sensor that can tell when the dog barks, when the dog barks the collar sprays straight on to the dogs face. They hate the smell but it DOES NOT harm them. We tried it with our dog and it worked really well! The collar runs about $80 at Petsmart! Also, we are making sure he gets lots of exercise and he starts puppy school soon. Good luck!!

Take him for a run or at least a long walk to burn some of that energy off. If it is a working dog breed, put a back pack with some weight in it on him so he feels like he's doing a job and it will tire him. When he barks make your hand like a claw or dog's mouth and apply some pressure by his neck real quick and say NO. It's just to snap him out of it. And eventuall hopefully he will learn not to do it if you are consistent. Watch Caesar Milan, the dog whisperer on National Geographic.

honestly in my personal experience with dogs, depending on the dog of course, they can be the smartest things you've come in contact with. if the dog keeps on barking, punish it. now i'm not saying hit it or anything but if you make your voice stern and firm the dog is bound to eventually stop.

teach it to be calm, and use this energy as an advantage, he will do the things you want him to more enthusiastically if you duplicate this energy and make it all seem like a whole lot of fun. i would not recommend a shock collar because that will only make it scared all the time.

You have to be patient and when they don't do what you want, you just dont give them a treat with out yelling or being aggresive. you have to be positive and remember: dogs react against presure, so if you pull up on the leash, your dog is going to want to go down. when it does you say good down! Good down! that way, the dog is being praysed and they get to know the word so later they will do it on comand!

Like the three pit bulls that play with my two year old son and my declawed cats? A two dollar squirt gun from the drug store will be miraculous. It will startle the animal but not hurt it or cause fear, and you can get him without yelling or throwing things from across the room.

Give them more than plenty of excercise before you even attempt training. You will have a lot more of their attention!!!
