He doesn't. He's making the story more emotional so that it pulls peoples heartstrings and he's lying through his teeth.
They didn't know about that nerve that then, and even if the body existed, the flesh would have rotted away after 2000 years so that no proof would remain.

The Pastor probably never claimed that the severing of the median nerve is the Word of God. Pastor's will deliver the Word of God as long as they are focused on the Bible. However, inevitably they will speak about things outside of the text which are not explicitly the Word of God.
You are correct in saying that there is no way that he could have known that this "median nerve" was actually severed. He was not lieing he was simply passing on information he has researched or told. So he was telling what he believed to be the actual truth based on the evidence he had. Though I admit it was probably a lot of assumptions.
The Pastor should not have stated so conclusively concerning the "median nerve." However, the Pastor is also a human and makes mistakes. So, one this one thing, when he should have simply qualified the statement, can't we be forgiving?
And to answer you final question, No the Word of God is not a lie.

The very best ministers in the world are not on TV(or even probably radio). A heck of a lot of T.V preachers get the enough money to keep up a big TV program by being money-grubbing false preachers. Not all, though I'm sure. This fellow might have been honestly mistaken, thinking he knew for sure. Or, (I havent done the research!) he may have been right, remember it says none of Jesus' bones were broken, so that eliminates a lot of possible puncture points.
Anyways, my main point is, that if you want to try to tell a born-again Christian that some TV preacher is fulla balony, dont expect him to be super surprised. High profile preachers have been embarassing us and have been used by Satan to distract from the Gospel since way way before Jim and Tammy Bakker.
Like I said, I don't know who this guy is, or if he is honest or what. I'm just saying that, in general, sadly, you cant trust most people who preach on TV. Keep reading the Bible, and find a good church that teaches straight from the Bible, and you'll be in good shape.

A lot of ministers use an article from the Journal of American Medical Association to describe the physical death of Christ. This article was written from a physician's perspective outlining what most likely was the scientific cause of death in Jesus' case. It is quite interesting. I read it in JAMA back in 1986. Just go to the JAMA website and look up vol 255 no.11 March 21 1986. I don't think he was lying, if anything the scientific theory cannot be proven but as a medical case study, it is pretty accurate. Hope this helps

First of all, scientists have deduced -- through physics and experimentation (It's on National Geographic Channel, by theway) -- that Jesus' palms couldn't have been pierced since they would tear the skin due to His weight once the cross was standing. That gives us a good idea that Jesus' wrists were pierced instead. From there, you can read below:
"The arms are pulled apart and nails driven through the wrist into a cross beam which is raised in place. This dislocates the shoulders. The nails in the wrists sever the median nerve resulting in a burning pain as well as paralysis in the hand. To breathe Jesus had to press up on the nails in His feet, scraping His raw back on the wood. The body gradually drains of blood causing the heart to beat faster and faster. Dehydration is occurring. The breathing becomes more labored and intense as well as frequent adding to the agony. The blood loss results in extreme thirst as the body craves water to restore the lost blood. Jesus said, "I thirst" (John 19:28). The heart beats so hard trying to compensate for the loss of oxygen (due to the lack of blood) in the body, that it eventually ruptures. At this point the chest cavity fills with fluid. The soldier pierced Jesus' side and out came blood and water, signifying that the heart had stopped beating and the blood was settling in the chest cavity. Jesus was dead."

This is a nice question. I personally cannot stand when people talk out of ignorance.
Are you sure he did not say, "Usually when people were crucified in Roman days, the Romans would sever the median nerve..." There can be evidence of this, since there have been many accounts of how precise the Romans were at crucifixions.
For your final question; the word of God is perfect. No matter how much people pervert it, it will still be perfect.

I don't know what you were watching but I agree that this happens all the time. Whether or not the guy had good intentions or not, it made you think negatively at Christianity and I don't know you but you may never give it another chance.
As teachers in the word (Christians) need to hold themselves more accountable and preach the WORD not their speculation. We can get that from the news every night. Brother if you don't know Jesus, give him a chance. There are great resources to help you on their walk. I would suggest Dr. Tony Evans for sound teaching and for some AMAZING music, The Steven Brack Band!

I don't think he was lying per say. What about the The Shroud of Turin?
"... an old linen cloth that bears the image of a crucified man. A man that millions believe to be Jesus of Nazareth." I got this in the Internet.
After analyzing the cloth, scientists can tell how he died, the wounds he had in his body...
I don't know, maybe they know which nerve was severed, by the mark in his hand at this cloth.
Peace!

Well, when we get to Heaven we'll have to ask the Lord Himself.
In the mean time I suppose we'll just have to take the minister's word for it. After all if he a good minister, he should be in contact with the Holy Spirit Who in fact does know the issue.

The word of man is a lie. I'm not answering your question though.
Continue to channel surf. I live in the "Bible Belt" , midwest to be exact (Oklahoma) and there is certainly alot of hogwash on TV these days.
