i live in cleveland, ohio. im 16 and i have a car.me and my mother got into a disagreement. her name is on my car and she took my keyes. she said if i want them back i have to get my own insurance and get the car in my name. can i get the car in my name only being a minor?

If the car is paid for, free and clear, you can probably put it in your name. If there is any kind of loan you can't. And getting your own policy will cost you dearly.

Minors can not legally enter a contract. If someone sells a minor a car and the minor does not pay, they could be out of luck depending on the state. Most dealers will not sell to a minor.

A minor can own a car but the adult usually puts the minor on his/her insurance (it's much, much cheaper that way). You can get your own insurance but it will cost dearly. I owned my own car, legal paperwork and all, at 17.

You have your license, why can't you have the car in your name?
