People on the Internet are largely the same people you meet anywhere else, on bars, libraries etc etc. They are not generally any creepier or likely mass murderers/rapers. Just handle it as you would with any stranger. Meet them first in a public place and learn to know them a bit. After that you can take it to the next step.

There are many horror stories about Internet dates gone wrong, but trust me, so are there from normal dates. People just are more eager to bash something that is new.

I have dated 4 people from the internet. The first man I dated was a great guy and we dated for a year. We're now best friends and keep in touch almost daily even though we both currently have other relationships. The other guys and I still communicate on occasion to see how the other is doing. My current boyfriend and I also met on the internet, and things are going well; we're very happy. I did have a bad experience one time but i kicked the guy's butt and things turned out well. I usually talk to guys for several months before meeting and when a date is set, it's in the day or evening, in a public spot with many people. My friends and family know where I am and I keep them updated. They don't come to my house or me to their's until I feel safe and confident with them, which is usually one to two months after the initial meeting.

Yes, and here's why. I was in a relationship with someone for 2 1/2 years that I met on the internet. We met on a website for college students. After talking to each other online on that website for awhile, we then started to talk on the phone. I talked to him on the phone for a whole year before we met each other. We were even telling each other that we loved each other before meeting in person. After meeting him, he looked slightly different than I thought, but I was still madly in love with him. We broke up about a year and a half later for other reasons. I still talk to him and visit him though. He was actually one of the best boyfriends I've ever had

My daughter is living with a guy she met online in a chat room. She was careful, got to know him slow. They chatted and IM'd for a while {months}, talked on the phone, webcammed eachother and then finally met here at her home where she knew she'd be safe. If you're very careful and take precautions it can be safe.

I think with the way the world is these days you can't trust people and never really know them when you meet them in person so to meet them on the internet makes things just that more dangerous!! Hopefully your a smart girl and not just a horny one

Heck no! People have this tendency to lie about themselves while online. Let me give you an example. A supposedly great looking young guy with a job turns out to be a nasty little middle aged pervert, missing several teeth, that still lives with his mommy. No thanks. I dont think the risk is justified.

No, sexual predator, perv, junkie, could be showing you fake pictures. Yeah...not safe at all. Possibly quite stupid too.
