No test...just a quick look and a few questions. I asked the nurse if it was normal for a doc to just look at a throat and perscribe antibiotics. She said yes if there is pus (yes, I have white spots on my tonsils) which indicates a bacterial infection, not a viral infection. He asked if I wanted something for my cough (no) and tylenol (no). Was I overreacting for feeling that he did a crap job?

Yes. Why do a lab test that he knows turns out to be positive 99.9% of the time? You have classic strep throat symptoms. He's an efficient doctor.

Yes you were overreacting! Strep is an easy diagnosis. There are a lot of quacks out there, but even most quacks should be able to tell strep when they see it.

Most likely, the doc was ok, aggressive treatment is often called for, to quickly deal with the infection, which is detected by visual exam by an experienced doc!

If your doctor is experienced, I don't understand why you would want the expense of further testing. He could have cultured your throat or done blood work that would have increased the amount of your bill considerably.
