yes, i have a cd writer. yes, i have a blank disk in there. I've tried opening the file i want to save clicking save as, opening the F drive cd and clicking save, but it says "document cannot open" or something to that effect. is there any other way i can do this? should i have the cd in the other the drive?

Hmm, you can't use the Save function to copy your file to CD. What I'd suggest you do is go to Start, My Computer, then select the WordPerfect file you want to copy to CD (don't open it, just select it, it should highlight in blue). Then, on the left side of your dialog box, you should see a heading File and Folder Tasks. Under that you should see Copy This File. Click Copy this File, then another box will come up and you have to select where you are going to copy to. So, select your CD drive. Then click Copy. Now, you'll have a copy on your CD.

I have two burners, a Samsung and a Dell. Both require me to use CD/RWs and they must be first formatted with the software that powers the burner.

I used this system for a while for backups, until flashdrives became available -- which hold so much more data, easily transportable, and work like a floppy.
