??Why did WE Looooose $ 1.00 when we went for lunch !? / !?.?

3 ppl go to lunch, Each pays $ 10.00. X 3ppl = $ 30.00. Waitress brings back $ 5.00.discount each person takes $1.00,back. & leave $ 2.00 for waitress.Each person took back $ 1.00. So now Each paid $ 9.00 X 3 ppl = $ 27.00.+$2.00 for waitress=$29.00.where did $ 1.00. GO ? ?

when you multiply $9.00 x 3 ppl you are really subtracting $3 dollars from the original $30 so rather than
$30 - $5 =$25
$25 +3 = $28
$28 +2 =$30
so really what you should do is
divide the $5 between the three people, because that's how much each person is getting back
$10/$3 = 1.66666666666666666666666667
than subtract 1 dollar because that's how much each person keeps for themselves
which leaves you with 0.6666666666666666666666666666667
subtract that amount from $10 because that's how much each person is now actually paying, because each person doneates 2/3 of a dollar to the waitress.
so that's 9.666666666666667 x 3= $28 and then add the $2 that you gave to the waitress and that's how you get $30
