Yes. Here is how it is determined: There are 36 races in a NASCAR season. A driver accumulates points in each race, depending on where he finished, with 5 extra points for leading a lap, and one driver gets an additional 5 points for leading the most laps. After the 26th race, the top-12 drivers in points make the playoffs, which in NASCAR is called "The Chase for the NEXTEL Cup." The points for the top-12 drivers are then reset to 5000, with drivers recieving 10 points for each win accumulated in the first 26 races (for example a driver with 5 wins will have 5050 points and a driver with one win will have 5010 points). The point structure remains the same, and which ever driver has the most points after the final race (the 36th race) wins the Championship.
Not to confuse you, but their is also an owner's championship. It works exactly the same way, but sometimes a car has more than one driver throughout the season. Their driver points would be separate, but their owner points would be combined. So it is possible that the Championship driver could be different than the Championship car/owner.
The winner recieves the Cup (trophy) and a TON of money. Like 6 to 7 million dollars.

There is a Nascar Championship; Nascar is divided into 3 series....Truck Series, Busch Series and Cup Series. In each series there is a championship. There is not a championship race. Which ever driver has the most points at the end of the season wins the championship.
With the Cup series there is now "The Chase", which is Nascar's version of the playoffs, which are the final 10 races of the season that will determine who wins the championship. Which ever driver has gained the most points at the end of the final race during "The Chase" is crowned the champion.

There is a championship for NASCAR. For part of the season, drivers are awarded points for their positions in each race, and for other things, like most laps lead, etc. Then it gets real confusing, because only the top ten drivers are in the race for the championship, but the other drivers are still racing. Check out NASCAR. com and they should have some more info for you. We all have our own favorites, and everybody else's guy is a no good rat, and we love it this way.

Championship is won on points earned all season. They have to race their way in to "The Chase" The top 12 points leaders then race the last 10 races for the Championship. Good question!

yes, a NASCAR nextel cup season lasts for 36 races. the first 26 are the regular season. the top 12 drivers in points after 26 races are in the running for the title, which is determined in the last 10 races, also known as 'the chase'.

The last 10 races are the Chase for the Cup.
The top 10 (I think it's top 12 now) drivers have their points reset at 5000 and battle it out the last 10 races to get the most points. The last race is raced in Miami
