Tell this teacher that you need to talk bout something that is very personal. She will listen to you.

Most people become teachers because they want to make a difference in the lives of kids. They truely care about their students.

It is very important that you get the help that you need with this.

I'm so sorry that you are going through this. I am worried about this for a friend of my daughter's, and have recently met with a group of teens and parents who have that kind of issue.
If you are asking, how do I bring it up - I have a couple of simple ways to try to get some time to talk privately with your teacher.
Leave a sealed note or letter on his/her desk or inbox - keep it simple: "I need to talk to someone about a serious problem and I trust you - can I meet with you privately?" - or- if you have a chance to, say the same kind of thing out loud when you are alone with the teacher.
If you are asking about how to get the words out of your mouth because you are nervous, then probably leaving the note or letter would help because once you did, they would come to you and it would be easier to start talking.
Are you able to tell the psychiatrist that you are feeling suicidal?
Hang in there - I know it is really hard. Get some of the hotline numbers online for suicide and self injury and use them - those folks are real angels, and a lot of them do the work because they have been there and done that.

Well, lets just start this off simply.....I' m14 and in 8th grade. I suffer from depression, though I haven't been diagnosed. I am a self injurer also. I have also told a friend, but only one.
I, however, don't see a psychiatrist.

But anyways...

I went to one of my teachers becuase I knew I had to tell someone. Just ask your teacher when nobody's listening, or just slip her a note, asking if you can talk to her after class or after school or some other time. When I talked to my teacher, I couldn't bear to tell her, because I didn't want her to be disappointed. All I said was that I had been doing something I knew I shouldn't have. She kept asking what, and I just slid by sleeve up and waited for her to notice.

She's been helping me through it all. Sometimes I'm a little too much for her since this isn't truly part of her job, but she is a life saver. I encourage talking to teachers. Especially when you can't talk to your parents. Good luck and email me anytime at beth.sara@yahoo.com

I had to approach a teacher I trusted very much in highschool about some things that where going on in my family. I just went up to her during a time that i knew she could talk and I knew her class room was empty. I told her that I needed to talk to someone and I trusted her. I then started to tell her what was going on and i thought i needed help. My story is a little different than yours unlike you i wasnt hurting my self. It was a family memember. But if you trust this teacher just tell this teacher that you would like to talk to them. Let them know its about some personal issues and I sure the teacher will understand and be there for you.

I think it's admirable that you want to confide in someone you trust. I hope you will either stay after class and ask her if you can speak with her at the end of the day, or give her a note asking her the same. And follow through with it because it's very important that you share the things you need to say.

Are you on anti-depressants? Studies over the past couple years have shown that some teenagers have suicidal feelings on certain anti-depressants. I hope you have informed your psychiatrist of your feelings because you may need your medication readjusted.

Good luck to you. I hope you're feeling better soon!

Have you told your psychiatrist about your cutting? I'm not saying this isn't something you should tell your teacher, but your teacher might feel a bit more secure in helping you if she thinks you are also getting some help from your psychiatrist.

Additionally, your psychiatrist might know whether there are consequences--i.e., if you report your cutting to your teacher, will your teacher be obligated to tell the school administration and what will happen from there?

By all means if this teacher is someone you trust then ask to speak with her privately about a personal matter. Your psychiatrist does need to know, and if you cant talk to your spychiatrist about it then maybe there is an issue there that needs to be dealt with. I would also suggest a yourth pastor or a teen outreach group. I will pray for you get help soon.

If you trust this teacher, then I'm assuming you have a good relationship with him/her. Just go up and say "I really need to talk to someone", or something to that effect. Don't be discouraged if this teacher asks you to come back later; teachers have a lot of things going on, and unless you outright tell him/her it can't wait, he/she will think it can. Good luck!

It is very important to tell someone you trust. The teacher will do all they can to help you and if you trust them this much, they will be such an emotional crutch for you to lean on. Good Luck and try to stay positive.
