That someone should be more concerned with the possibility the needle was infected with HIV. The finger should be thoroughly flushed and cleaned. Then an HIV test should be done and possibly be started on HIV medications just in case.

But, in answer to your question, it was a dirty needle. There is a serious risk of infection. Infection causes redness, swelling, and colorful drainage from the entry site.

It wouldnt be very big at all. You know how you get a shot from the doctor it may bleed a little but there isnt a big hole there after words. If anyone gets poked with a drug needle they should get medical help asap!!! They should get tested for HIV or anyother bloodborne pathogens. Im not a doctor but I am a CNA and I my self have been pokes a few times with Insulin needles and even that you need to get tested. Its something you should take very seriously!
