In my opinion it means he is bored with the relationship wants to see if he could be happier being alone.

It sounds like this has been building up inside of him for quite some time now, maybe even years. I am going to guess that more than likely you have been way too clingy for him. Most guys get annoyed when their other half is constantly at their heels. Space is golden. If this is the first time he has complained that you call too much etc... it's unfortunate that he didn't give you a more fair chance. Something tells me that he just said 3 or 4 months to just buy some time because he doesn't want to hurt you or deal with your emotions of an all out break up. I'm only guessing so please don't get offended.

It sounds like he's freaked out because after that long, it's getting serious and he needs to make a commitment. Three or four months is really random and it's a long time. Give him his space, but tell him that there is no such thing as a break that long. It's either over or it's not... sounds like he wants out and doesn't know what to do. I say, it's not easy, but it's time to move on. Enjoy being SINGLE for the first time in 6 years!!

Your boyfriend may not be cheating on you and if he is then you have to prove that he is. Just because he wants to take a break and you and him space apart does not mean that he is going to break up with you unless after three months he has decided that he does not want to do it anymore and in that case he will have to tell you and why he has made this decision. Maybe it would not hurt for you to take to space to and get your thoughts collected and make sure that you and him are on the same level.

Be glad it is working out this way. It is time to move on. He is either
A. Wanting to be with someone else
B. Wanting to control you by breaking up over phone calls when he could have talked it out
C. Already knowing how long he wants to be "free" and expecting you to go along with it no problem, shows he runs the show. Do you really want that? Run and find your life back again. If you were calling like a stalker, it shows you know something is up. Plenty of men out there. Good Luck.

Let him go. It's better to have it happen now than a year or two down the road when you are married and pregnant with your 2nd child and he wants out. Six years is a long time and you will miss him horribly. It's hard to imagine, but there's probably another plan for you. Be open minded and find new interests to keep busy. Above all, don't beg him or trap him.

Well... 6 years is a long time, you should try and see new people, just see how it is to be with someone else or on your own, you might like it and find that you didn't really need your old boyfriend. Or he could always come back begging for forgivenss (it's a nice thought to think of...)

It means that we think you are a psycho and we want to treat you really badly and have sex with other women. We love it when you call us. It is a sure fire way for us to know that you are desperate and that we can treat you like crap. We really relish the momemts when we tell you we need space and you still call us. We just sit by the phone and laugh while it is ringing.

honestly i think he probably is scared and getting to close. there may be or may not be anyone esle. he may be scared of commitment. men are weird anyway. my experince was that the guy did have someone else. give it to him. if it was meant to be you will get back together. you can fight for something that wasnt meant to be. just go on with everyday life and dont call him. he may actually end up missing you can come back. let him see what he is missing. good luck
