Yes, and any surgery can be fatal is the right things go wrong. I've had open spine surgery before (4 times) and I've come through them fine. If your doctors are good and they know what they are doing you should be fine. The biggest risk is probably infection, but there are possibilities of spinal fluid leak, nerve damage, paralysis, but generally if they are performed correctly they turn out fine.

Any surgery can be fatal if you don't have a good surgeon! I had spine surgery three years ago, three disc's were removed from my neck and a metal plate was attached to six of my vertebrae. My surgeon was an expert neurosurgeon and he did an excellent job! Today, I am totally normal. I can even move my neck normally.

Any surgical procedure can have complications.
Any doctor would warn you about that.
If the benefits would not outweigh the risk, then it would only be done as a last resort.
But any hospital or doctor is very concerned about yoursafety, and they want a good outcome as much as you do.

YES, it could be, one little slip of the knife and it could do nerve damage or even paralyze you!!!! I've had 2 major back surgeries. Finally had to have my lumber fused bc i have severe scoliosis. Just MAKE SURE you have a GOOD spine surgeon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes, if they barley touch your nerves, it could be fatal. Sometimes paralyzing could occur.
