If it has never been open, it is down, so you know not to buy one with a button popped up because it means it has been opened.

i agree with the second i think third and the one above me... if it's open on the self in the store you shouldn't drink it cause you never know if someone had taken a drink from it or not and so you don't take it if it is unpopped so you don't get sick... or it might not be sealed properly too

its a security thing. if you get one that already pops, DON'T DRINK IT!! make sure, before you open it, that there is no give in the cap. after you open it, it will pop.

It's a vacuum seal, if it doesn't pop when you first open it, it hasn't been sealed properly or has been opened before
