Field trips.
Modeling curiosity and enthusiasm for the subject.
Lots of labwork--like growing stuff around the house, getting a cheap microscope and using it often for the silliest reasons, finding a penpal for your kid from another country and that way practicing typing.
Assisting your kid in making a model (diorama) of a castle or whatever else your kid is interested in.
Getting your kid one piece of stock and monitor the fluctuation of the stock market.
Go to the grocery store, tell her how much to spend and here's the shopping list, and let her calculate how much you are spending as you go up and down the aisles.
Bring the real world into your classroom, and you've got it made.
