Tri-Cities of Virginia (also known as the Tri-City area or the Appomatox Basin) is an area in the Greater Richmond Region which includes the three independent cities of Petersburg, Colonial Heights, and Hopewell and portions of the adjoining counties of Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, and Prince George in south-central Virginia. Other unincorporated communities located in the Tri-Cities area include Ettrick, Fort Lee, and City Point, the latter formerly a historic incorporated town which was annexed to become part of the City of Hopewell.

If you mean major, by way of economically, the list will include: Fairfax, Richmond, Falls Church, Arlington, Alexandria, Norfolk, Va. Beach. Because of Va. Polytechnic Institute and State University, you should include Blacksburg.

I have never lived there, but I will name all those that I know. Norfolk, Newport News, and Richmond. If you happen to be someone who lives there, I hope I didn't miss yours. Oh, and one more. The most important city in any state is always the one that your family lives in.

Bedford may not be a major city but its a beautiful place and has much history connected to it. Another beautiful place is Natural Bridge Va.
