it hurts a lot more than the bottom earrings...it depends on you though...some people hurt worse than others...

The bottom part of your ear is soft tissue, when it gets pierces, the tissue kind of stretches around it...the top is hard cartilage...when it's pierced, it can't just move or stretch...it actually has to break through...so it's a lot harsher..

My bottoms didn't hurt but a little pinch, and they healed easily and quickly, my top hurt like hell to get it done and was a pain to heal and took forever...(but I got a more difficult piercing then most..I have an orbital that's gaged...)
So it also depends on the type of piercing...

Any way you go, you should get it done if you want it, bite the bullet and take the pain for a while...
You also want to get it done at a piercing salon(most tattoo parlors)...don't get it done with a gun in the mall...yes the gun would be a little quicker and cheaper, but it's bad...the gun tends to shatter the cartilage and cause loads of problems...go to a parlor and get it done with a needle...the needles are hallow and actually punch out a small hole. making it safer and makes it heal easier....I hope this helps and good luck!!!!

(the best answer you can get is going to be from a pro piercer...)

I have four in the top, pain depends on you. If you handle pain well it shouldn't be a problem but if you are a whimp be prepaired for your nerves to get the best of you. I didn't even feel my first one, the second was tingly and tickled, third was the same way but my latest one stung a little only because it's a double piercing so one of the needles moved a little making it sting for a split second. You could try pinching the part you want to get pierced really hard, until you can't take it any more and that's probably what the after math will feel like while it's coming down from the swelling. Most people don't actually feel the piercing because it so fast. Get it done with a needle. It will cut down the pain, healing time, and bleeding depending on the area. DO NOT GO TO THE MALL! Go to a piercing parlor and have it done with a needle. You'll do fine!

yes a helix piercing hurts more than a regular lobe piercing does ther are many differnt cartilage piercings..but the most common is the helix... trust me.. it will hurt less if you get it done professionally wiht a needle than compared to a gun.. with a needle it will take less time to heal as well since it makes a clean cut through.. and guns only force the blunt object through. which can shatter that cartilage and cause a cartilage collapse (thats what yiou get when you get it pierced with a gun byt some teenager practicing to pierce a plastic ear or a post it note anyways lolol)

its a very bearavle pain though. i have had all of mine done with needles. ince i learned ot get it done with a needle since i saw all of my friends in high school had VERY bad experiences with the gun! lol

well almost 20 now and have 4 cartilage piercings alltogether!

includes 3 helix piercings anf 1 rook

i also have 5 other piercings in various places

good luck!

get it done wiht a needle! do your homeowrk by looking for a reputable piercer in your area

I have an industrial in the top part of my ear. Everyone told me it was going to hurt majorly. But when I had it done, it hurt and was sensitive for about an hour. After that, I had no problems. I think it depends on the person doing the peircing as much as the location.

I got mine done by a professional at a tattoo parlor.

I got mine done twice and it hurts not much more then the lower part of your ear. If you can handle the other holes you can handle getting that done. Make sure if you get it done you take care of it the way your supose to because your cartlidge can get infected easier. Lots of people on here say not to get it done at the mall becuase they use a piercing gun. I had mine done at Claires at the mall with a piercing gun. It was fine. The only problem with the mall places are the people doing it don't always know what they are doing.

I pierced my cartilidge myself, it hurt, mostly because it wasn't one swift motion and i used a safety pin. If you get yours done by a professional who uses a piercing needle it should feel like a pinch, then it will be sore for a few days, then fine.

It really isnt all that painful to get piercings, so dont worry about it, it is over super quick, when my friend who is petrified of needles got her bellybutton done she said she didnt even know that the piercer had put the needle in, until he was guiding the jewelry through.
anyways, dont think too much about the pain and you will be glad when you finally get your piercing!

I have three on the bottom and one on the top. When you get the top one done it just stings for a sec. then it will kind of feel warm for a little bit and whatever you do don't sleep on the ear that you decide to get done.

the further up your ear you go, the more a piercing hurts because there is more cartilege in the area; however it is just a little bit worse. if you were able to get your lobes done, you will be able to get your upper ear done no problem

just make sure you get it done with a needle, NOT with a piercing gun. [and make sure to take care of it afterward]

That hurt way worse. You know the bottom for the ear it's just skin, but the top is harder. Bottom piercing, I can live with. Top piercing.....
